Ruana woven on the guanga loom

A warming garment woven on the guanga over a warp mounted in full before the first pass is made. The borders are worked out from the start, so the symbolism of the Pastos people is woven into the garment rather than laid over it.

Cultural meaning and context

The story of the weaving

“It is the garment that occupies the loom the longest: while a ruana is mounted, the guanga cannot be used for anything else.”

The ruana accompanies daily life in the territory and carries the symbolism of our own people, read along the borders of the garment.
